The Hub Doesn’t Fit In A Box

and We’re Ok With That.

Our open kitchen serves wild and wonderful food all day and our coffee and cocktails are pretty epic.

We show live sport, independent cinema, community events and comedy in our two screening rooms.

We have live music every month. We host pop-ups.

We care about the world and our kids futures. We compost our food waste on site and give it back to communities we buy from.

There’s nothing else like us here.

From The Founders.

We set about establishing The Hub on Verulam in 2019. After a full year of premises hunting, we came across the old Loch Fyne building on Verulam Road and began the long journey to launching, via a major site refurbishment and the opening of The Deli on Verulam (next door) in November 2021.

An ambitious wellness expert and a creative hospitality baby, we love nothing more than to absorb experiences and use them to create something great. We live in St Albans with our baby boy, Kit, one of us (Alex) grew up here.

Above all else, it’s our mission to give you space to come together, to create memorable social experiences built around choice, that are better for you and better for the planet.

We hope that you enjoy what’s been created here.

Cinema.

in St Albans.

Both ‘The Box’ and ‘The Terrace’ cinema rooms host a busy monthly schedule of events, screenings and workshops aimed at quenching our communities thirst for knowledge, entertainment and connection.

From independent films and age-appropriate movies, to major sporting events, networking opportunities and workshops, there is no better space to gather friends and family in St Albans for a fun day or evening out. Peckish while you watch? We have you covered. Our technology allows you to remain seated, and have your favourite screening room snacks from the bar menu delivered to you.

The Box Cinema.

Our first floor cinema room is named ‘The Box’.

This smaller cinema room provides a more intimate, luxurious setting than The Terrace. Paired with it’s own private bar for pre-screening drinks, The Box has been fitted out to the highest specification with a 120inch screen, recline sofas and armchairs, footrests and side tables.

You are able to catch independent and classic films, major sporting events and documentaries in here monthly.

The Terrace Cinema.

Our ground floor cinema room is named ‘The Terrace’ in a nod to co-founder Alex’s lifelong mission to create the ‘perfect’ environment to watch and enjoy sport.

Gone are the days of having to arrive at the pub 4 hours earlier than kick-off to ensure a good view of the TV, struggling to hear commentary or squinting to see the score in the corner of a tiny screen.

The Terrace has been kitted out by local AV specialists Pulse Creative Solutions. We’ve installed the highest quality 102inch screen, tiered comfortable seating with flip-down drinks trays and surround sound to ensure our guests can gather with their friends and family to enjoy a stadium like atmosphere, right on their doorstep.

Colin the Composter

He’s our on-site commercial composting machine. He turns all of our food waste into nutrient rich, useable compost within 24 hours.

Colin’s process is odourless, automated and energy efficient. The composting chamber that our food waste is deposited into every day, has internal rotating arms for mechanical agitation and an oil jacket for insulation. Built in microbes then compost organic waste in the chamber, within 24 hours. The temperature of the tank is also raised to 70 degrees every hour to eliminate any harmful bacteria.

Our team then harvest our compost into re-useable bags. Bags are then available from the deli, to refill whenever compost is available.

It’s a part of our mission be socially responsible and sustainable wherever possible and Colin is a huge part of that. If you’d like to take a look at Colin the next time you visit, please let us know and one of team will be happy to show him off.
